A woman bleeding from a head wound locked herself into a bathroom to get away from a 25-year-old man, who later fled from the scene and was stopped by gardaí.

These were the allegations made at Cork District Court in the case against Chindo Emeaugbor, of Summerhill, Mallow, Co Cork, who faces a charge of assault causing harm.

Judge Mary Dorgan refused jurisdiction after hearing the allegations in the case, where the accused was charged by Garda Steven O Sullivan.

Sergeant Aisling Murphy said the alleged incident occurred at Washington Court, Anne Street, Cork.

“On May 16, 2025, at 11am, gardaí received a 999 call from a female alleging that she had been assaulted by a male who was known to her after a verbal disagreement.

“She said she had been struck in the forehead and was bleeding from the wound. The caller said she had locked herself in the bathroom of the house.

“Gardaí arrived at the scene and found the injured party was on the road with family members. An ambulance arrived to bring the injured party to hospital.

“The alleged offender had just fled in a car [and this vehicle was described]. Gardaí observed this vehicle on Washington Street. It was eventually stopped a short time later on South Main Street.

"The driver, now known to gardaí as Chindo Emeaugbor, was subsequently arrested and conveyed to Bridewell Garda Station.

“The injured party was assessed by paramedics and later received six stitches to her forehead. A statement of complaint was taken from her where she alleged that she was struck by Chindo Emeaugbor.”

Chindo Eimesugbor was later charged with assault causing harm to the woman.

Judge Dorgan said after hearing the allegations she was refusing jurisdiction and viewed the nature of the injury as too serious to be dealt with at district court level.

The case was then adjourned until April 29 to allow time for further directions from the Director of Public Prosecutions in light of refusal of jurisdiction.
