A 20-year-old motorist who was caught driving without insurance at a time when she was banned from driving from previous offences of a similar nature was sentenced to four months in prison.
Judge John King imposed the sentence on Chelsea Thomas of Watergrasshill, Cork, at Cork District Court.
Judge King noted the offence occurred on January 29 at Kilcully Road, Cork, and there was a second offence of a similar nature that she committed at Bridge Street, Cork, on March 29.
The judge decided a prison sentence could not be avoided, particularly in light of the fact she had previous no-insurance convictions and was disqualified from driving when both of this year’s offences were committed.
Judge King imposed a four-month jail sentence for the January offence and imposed a consecutive five-month sentence, which was suspended for the second offence.
Frank Buttimer, solicitor, said the sentences were not being appealed by the young woman.
