Almost €1.7m worth of cannabis seized in Dublin

Almost €1.7m worth of cannabis has been seized by Revenue officers in Dublin.

Officers examining parcels at a premises in the capital last week discovered 82kg of herbal cannabis and 9kg of cannabis resin. 

The drugs were estimated to be worth €1,694,000. 

They were found in parcels originating from Spain and were destined for addresses throughout Leinster. 

A Revenue spokesperson said investigations are ongoing. 

In a separate operation, more than 130,000 cigarettes and 58kg of rolling tobacco were seized by Revenue officers at Dublin Port on Tuesday.

The items were discovered as a result of risk profiling and have an estimated value of almost €163,000.

They were discovered in a package which had arrived from Cyprus via the Netherlands.

The smuggled cigarettes, branded ‘Benson & Hedges Gold’, have an estimated value of over €115,000, representing a potential loss to the exchequer of over €90,600.

The rolling tobacco, branded ‘Amber Leaf’, has an estimated value of over €47,800 and represents a potential loss to the exchequer of over €35,900.

"Investigations are ongoing," a spokesperson said.
