A 23-year-old Cork woman was arrested and charged with causing an affray at Mercy University Hospital and causing criminal damage to the front door of the property.

The alleged incident dates back almost two years. Now, Chloe Fray, of 50 Great William O’Brien Street, Blackpool, Cork, has been arrested and brought before Cork District Court in relation to the matter.

Ms Fray was charged that on March 26, 2022, at Mercy University Hospital, she engaged in an affray with other persons, including three named parties, who used or threatened to use unlawful violence towards each other and that such conduct would cause a person of reasonable firmness to fear for their own or another person’s safety.

She was also charged with causing criminal damage to the front door of the hospital.

Sergeant Gearóid Davis said there was no objection to the accused being remanded on bail but on strict conditions.

Those conditions require her to sign on Monday, Wednesday and Friday at Bridewell Garda Station between 9am and 9pm, reside at 50 Great William O’Brien Street, Blackpool, and abide by a curfew between 11pm  and 7am.

The last conditions require her to provide a contact number to gardaí and be contactable at all times, remain free from intoxicants and stay away from Mercy University Hospital and its environs, except for medical appointments.

Sergeant Davis said the Director of Public Prosecutions directed trial by indictment at Cork Circuit Criminal Court or the entering of a signed plea of guilty at Cork District Court for sentencing at the circuit court.

Frank Buttimer asked for a precis of the prosecution evidence so the question of a signed guilty plea could be considered.

Judge Mary Dorgan adjourned the case until January 17 for that purpose.
