Man accused of running naked through Cork apartment building and assaulting garda

Accused approached gardaí in the hallway of the apartment complex from a downstairs apartment not wearing any clothing and allegedly punched garda in the face, court heard

Gardaí responded to a report of a naked man running through an apartment building in Cork banging on doors and it is alleged he assaulted an investigating garda.

An outline of the allegations was given by Sergeant Aisling Murphy in the case against 41-year-old Andy Ademolam of St John’s Terrace, Upper John Street, at Cork District Court. After the outline was given, Judge Mary Dorgan accepted jurisdiction.

Diarmuid Kelleher, solicitor, asked for the case to be adjourned so he could obtain a copy of the Garda statements in the case. Judge Dorgan adjourned it to January 10 for that purpose.

Sgt Murphy said gardaí received a report on September 21 of a man running around banging on doors at the St John’s Terrace apartments. Gardaí went to the scene and entered the apartment complex and carried out door-to-door inquiries.

During the course of these inquiries, a man approached gardaí in the hallway of the apartment complex from a downstairs apartment not wearing any clothing.

The man was extremely aggressive and threatening towards gardaí.

During the course of this, he punched a member of An Garda Síochána in the face and was arrested, it was alleged.

“During course of arrest, pepper spray was utilised and handcuffs were used. He was conveyed to Gurranabraher Garda Station,” Sgt Murphy said.
