A man has been arrested following the seizure of €87,500 worth of cocaine from a vehicle in Co. Kerry.

As part of the ongoing Operation Tara, officers attached to the Kerry Divisional Drugs Unit and the Listowel Detective Unit say they conducted a stop and search of a vehicle in the Gortacrissane area of Listowel on Tuesday.

Inside, they uncovered cocaine with an estimated street value of €87,500.

A man, aged in his 30s, was then arrested in connection with the seizure.

He is being held under Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act, 1996 at a garda station in Kerry.

A garda spokesperson told the Irish Examiner that the seized drugs will be sent to Forensic Science Ireland for further analysis and that investigations are ongoing.
