Gardaí arrest suspect in fatal Dublin stabbing as Tallaght community in 'deep shock'

Gardaí investigating a fatal stabbing last night in Tallaght, Co Dublin have arrested a man in Co Louth. 

The man, aged in his 20s, was arrested in Dundalk, Co Louth and is being held at Tallaght Garda Station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984.

Gardaí began their investigation after the 25-year-old man died from injuries sustained following the fatal stabbing on Tuesday evening at around 7.15pm at Mac Uilliam Road, Tallaght. 

It is believed the man suffered a stab wound to the neck following an altercation.

He was transferred to Tallaght University Hospital where he later passed away from his injuries.

A postmortem taking place on the deceased is due to be completed later this afternoon. 

It is believed the victim may have known his attacker and Gardaí are following a definite line of inquiry. 

The victim was named locally as Ademola Giwa. 

A second man, aged in his 50s was also injured and removed to Tallaght University Hospital. 

He is still being treated for non life-threatening injuries. 

Local councillor Charlie O'Connor said he and the community are in deep shock and are very upset about the incident.

At the time of the incident, children from the local area were enjoying a kid's birthday party on a bouncy castle just yards from where the stabbing took place.

Mr O'Connor expressed his sympathy for the family of the victim and other families who have been impacted.

Mr O'Connor appealed to people to cooperate with the Gardaí as they conduct their investigation.

Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the fatal assault or were in the area between 6.30pm and 7.15pm on Tuesday evening to contact Tallaght Garda Station on 01 666 6000, the Garda Confidential Line 1800 666 111 or any Garda station.

The gardaí have also appealed for any passing taxis with dash cam footage to contact them. 

Investigations are ongoing.
