Approximately 18,000 homes, farms and businesses are without power this morning following strong winds and heavy rainfall on Tuesday. 

The affected properties are primarily in the west and the southwest of the country, an ESB spokesperson told the Irish Examiner. 

"ESB Networks crews have been deployed since first light in all impacted areas to continue to restore power and those restoration efforts will endure throughout the day, with the vast majority of impacted customers expected to have supply restored by this evening," the spokesperson said. 

"We acknowledge the disruption to family and commercial life this causes and thank impacted customers for their patience."

It comes as multiple weather warnings were in place across the country on Tuesday.

They included a status yellow warning for wind for Munster and a yellow wind warning for Galway, Mayo and Sligo. 

No weather warnings are currently in effect for today, Wednesday. 

The public has been reminded to never touch fallen or damaged wires as they are live and extremely dangerous.
