House fire and N40 crash spark major Cork emergency response

Gardaí and emergency services are currently at the scene of a fire involving multiple homes on Cork city’s northside, while emergency crews are also responding to a multi-vehicle collision at the Jack Lynch Tunnel.

It is understood that members of Cork City Fire Brigade are tackling a blaze affecting at least two adjoining houses on Kilmore Road in Knocknaheeny.

It is not known at this time whether anyone has been injured in the fire.

Meanwhile, gardaí and members of the National Ambulance Service are also at the scene of a multi-vehicle collision at the Jack Lynch Tunnel.

The incident, involving a van and a car, occurred in the eastbound lane of the N40 on Thursday afternoon.

A spokesperson for An Garda Síochána told the Irish Examiner motorists are advised to take alternative routes as the road remained closed following the collision.

It is also not known at this time whether anyone has been injured in the crash.
