Man, 60s, hospitalised after assault in Co Laois this morning

Gardaí have appealed for witnesses to a serious assault in Laois which has seen a man in his 60s hospitalised for serious injuries.

The man was assaulted on Main Street, Portarlington at approximately 1.15am this morning.

He has now been taken to Beaumont Hospital in Dublin.

A man in his 40s was arrested and is currently being held under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984 in a garda station in County Laois.

Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses or anyone with information on the incident or who may have video footage (including dash-cam) who were in the area between 12.45am and 1.30am to come forward.
