A new system of motor insurance in Ireland could save drivers €10-€15 a year on their policies, while also taking thousands of uninsured cars off the roads, an Oireachtas committee is to be told.

The Motor Insurers' Bureau of Ireland (MIBI) will bring proposals to the Oireachtas transport committee on Wednesday for a “continuous vehicle coverage” system that would take the onus off of An Garda Síochána to identify and apprehend uninsured drivers on the roads.
