Gardaí seize semi-automatic pistols and ammunition in Kildare operation

Gardaí have seized two semi-automatic pistols in Co Kildare as part of an ongoing operation.

As part of Operation Twin Tracks, gardaí from the Kildare North Community Engagement unit, supported by detectives from Kildare North Crime, conducted proactive patrols on the Royal Canal Way in Maynooth on Wednesday evening.

During the operation, gardaí intercepted a scrambler bike and seized two semi-automatic pistols along with 39 rounds of ammunition.

The rider, a man aged in his 30s, was arrested at the scene and is currently being detained at a Garda station in Co Kildare under Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act 1939.

39 rounds of ammunition were also seized.

Ballistic examinations under way All seized firearms are undergoing technical and ballistic examination.

Gardaí said investigations are ongoing and that further updates will be provided in due course.
