Gardaí will continue to pursue the Kinahan cartel “relentlessly”, even after the arrest of Daniel Kinahan, the garda commissioner said.
Daniel Kinahan’s father and brother, Christy Kinahan Senior and Junior, remain at large and are believed to be in the UAE.
“Our investigation into the group absolutely continues,” Garda Commissioner Justin Kelly said, speaking at the Garda Representative Association’s annual conference in Mayo today.
“This is not an end point for us.
“We will be relentless on individuals who have caused murder and mayhem here in Ireland, responsible for a significant number of homicides, including of two innocent people.”
Gardaí will continue to pursue organised crime and focus on its victims, their families, and the damage caused to communities across Ireland, he said.
“We have other work to do around these transnational organized crime groups.”
Almost 45 suspects have been incarcerated for various drug, firearm, and organised crime offences during the Hutch-Kinahan feud, the commissioner said.
Mr Kelly declined to reveal details of the Kinahan arrest, saying it was a matter for Dubai police.
The relationship gardaí developed with Dubai Police was “instrumental in some of the more recent developments in our work,” Mr Kelly said.
Despite the focus on the Kinahan organised crime group, several other transnational organised crime groups are operating in Ireland and internationally, he said.
“We've had a number of substantial successes with those as well in the last month.
“There have been some really significant successes and actually some of them have had real impact around the ability of some of these groups to operate in Ireland.
“Our work here continues.”
