Man arrested at Liffey Valley as suspect device deemed ‘non-viable’
The bomb experts determined the device was “non-viable” and the scene was handed over to gardaí.
A man has been arrested during an incident near a west Dublin shopping centre that involved a bomb disposal unit.
Other emergency services, including the gardaí and Dublin Fire Brigade, were also alerted to the incident near the Liffey Valley shopping centre bus terminal on Wednesday evening.
A man aged in his 30s was arrested under public order legislation and detained at a Dublin Garda station.
The Defence Forces said bomb disposal experts responded to a request for assistance from gardaí around 8.20pm in relation to “suspect device found in the Liffy Valley area of Co Dublin”.
The bomb experts determined the device was “non-viable” and the scene was handed over to gardaí.
The bomb disposal operation was concluded by 10pm.
In a statement to the Irish Examiner, gardaí said they were alerted to a suspect device in the Clondalkin area at approximately 7.20pm on Wednesday.
"A cordon was put in place around the area and the services of the Defence Forces Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team was requested. The EOD team attended the scene.
"The device was deemed non-viable and the cordon was subsequently lifted.
"A male (aged in his 30’s) was arrested under public order legislation and is currently detained at a Garda station in the Dublin area.
"Investigations are ongoing."
Earlier, Dublin Fire Brigade said traffic restrictions were in place around Liffey Valley, near the bus terminal as firefighter/paramedics from Tallaght and its Blanchardstown ambulance respond to the incident.
