Two teenagers killed and three injured following single-vehicle Mayo crash

Gardaí and emergency services responded and two men in their late teens were pronounced deceased at the scene.

Two teenagers have been killed and three others injured following an early morning crash in Co Mayo.

The single-vehicle incident occurred on a local road (L5140) at Laghtadawannagh near Ballina at around 4.15am on Sunday.

Gardaí and emergency services responded and two men in their late teens were pronounced deceased at the scene.

Three other occupants of the car — two men in their mid-teens and one woman in her late teens — were transported by ambulance to Mayo University Hospital. Their injuries are not life-threatening.

The coroner has been notified and autopsies will be conducted in due course, gardaí said.

The road remains closed to facilitate a technical examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators, with local traffic diversions currently in place.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to come forward. Any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) from the area at the time are asked to make it available to investigating gardaí.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Ballina Garda Station on 096 20560, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda station.

Investigations are ongoing, gardaí said.

The crash means it has been another weekend of road tragedy after seven people were killed in road crashes on the island of Ireland last Saturday

So far, 27 people have been killed on Irish roads this year. In 2025, 190 people were killed in crashes on Irish roads.
