Met Éireann has issued a status yellow rain warning for Cork and Kerry, with heavy showers and longer spells of rain expected to bring localised flooding, poor visibility, and difficult travelling conditions.

The warning came into effect shortly after 9am on Friday and remains in place until 9am on Saturday.

A separate status yellow wind warning has also been issued for Waterford, Wexford and Wicklow, where “strong and gusty southeasterly winds” are forecast from 11am to 5pm on Friday.

Met Éireann said winds may lead to debris or loose objects being displaced and could cause further travel disruptions.

Friday is expected to be wet and blustery, with widespread rain turning heavy at times, particularly along exposed coasts where winds may reach gale force.

Scattered showers and some brighter spells are expected later in the day, though some showers may again turn heavy.

Cloudy conditions will persist into Friday night, with further showers or longer spells of rain and temperatures of 5C to 9C.

Saturday will bring a breezy start with scattered showers and limited sunny spells, before conditions brighten later in the afternoon. Highs of 9C to 11C are forecast.

Cloud will build again on Saturday night, with rain spreading nationwide, followed by a damp start on Sunday.

Rain and drizzle will clear to leave a dry and sunny afternoon, with temperatures of 10C to 13C and moderate winds.
