One person has died following a house fire in Co Cavan on Monday night.

Gardaí and emergency services responded to the blaze in the Killygowan area at around 7.35pm.

After local fire services extinguished the fire, which caused extensive damage to the property, a body was recovered from the scene.

Gardaí have not yet confirmed whether the deceased was male or female. The body remains at the scene, which has been preserved for a technical examination.

A Garda spokesperson told the Irish Examiner that the local coroner has been notified.

“Enquiries are ongoing,” the spokesperson added.
