Only 14% of children with disabilities are thriving in school, survey finds

Inclusion Ireland called on government to begin collecting and publishing disaggregated national data on the educational experiences of children with intellectual disabilities — including on suspensions and the use of restraint – to track progress and hold schools accountable.

Only 14% of children with disabilities are thriving in school and 27% have experienced restraint, a survey by Inclusion Ireland found.

And the school complaints system is set up to silence children, Lucinda Murrihy of Inclusion Ireland told the Joint Oireachtas Committee on Disability.
