Luas Red Line closure: Fire damage forces Connolly to Point services to remain shut for weeks

Due to "signficant damage" to the bridge, services between Connolly and the Point will remain closed for several weeks.

A section of the Luas Red Line in Dublin will remain closed for several weeks following a large fire that broke out on a bridge earlier this week.

On Tuesday night, firefighters brought the blaze on George’s Docklands Bridge under control.

However, due to severe damage to the bridge, services between Connolly and the Point will remain suspended for at least several weeks.

Transdev, which operates the Luas, said structural engineering assessments are still underway.

"Until these safety checks are complete, services cannot resume in the affected area," it said in a statement on Friday.

"The Luas team is examining options for a dedicated replacement bus service to cover the affected section while works and assessments continue.

"These checks are essential for everyone’s safety, and we appreciate the patience and support of Luas passengers during this disruption," the statement added.

Transdev confirmed that Luas tickets between Connolly and the Point will be accepted on Dublin Bus.
