An English tourist is in critical condition following a serious assault in Dublin in the early hours of Thursday morning.

Gardaí and emergency services attended the scene in the Temple Bar Square area at around 12.30am.

The man, aged in his 40s, was taken to Beaumont Hospital, where he remains in critical condition.

The scene was secured, and a technical examination was conducted.
