Luas services to the Docklands paused ‘for period of time’ after blaze on bridge

Luas services to the Docklands area of Dublin are not operating after a large fire broke out on a bridge on Tuesday night.

Firefighters brought the blaze at George’s Dock Bridge under control by 11.30pm.

Four fire engines, a foam tender and water tanker attended the scene as part of the multi-agency response.

Gas Networks Ireland said it assisted fire services on Tuesday night, but that the cause of the fire was not yet known.

Luas red line services are not operating from Busaras to The Point while the damage is being assessed.

Commuters on one red line service on Wednesday morning were told trams to the Docklands area would not be operating “for the foreseeable”.

“This is due to a fire yesterday in George’s Dock,” Luas said in a statement posted to X.

“We envisage this change to service may last a period of time as we wait for information in relation to the fire damage in the area and clearance in relation to the bridge, Luas infrastructure including overhead power lines.”
