Iodine deficiency signs found in three out of five pregnancies

A deficiency of iodine can lead to what were referred to as adverse outcomes which can included impaired neurodevelopment in children.

Three in five pregnant women showed signs of an iodine deficiency, which is essential for baby brain development, a new Irish study has shown.

A team from University College Cork (UCC) found that 60% of pregnant women had a suboptimal iodine status, even among women who had reported taking pregnancy supplements.
