Both vehicles were were reported to have been subject to unauthorised taking in recent days, under ongoing garda investigations.

Gardaí say they implemented a "managed containment operation" in response to the incidents.

During this, a stinger device was deployed and the cars were brought to a halt on the N25 at Grannagh Roundabout.

It is understood the teenagers were all aged in their mid-teens and were from the general local areas of South Tipperary, South Kilkenny and Waterford.
