Man arrested after €400k worth of cannabis seized in Dublin

Cannabis that was seized by Gardaí in Dublin.

A man has been arrested and approximately €400,000 of cannabis has been seized following a search of a residence in Swords, Co. Dublin today.

Forty vacuum-sealed bags of cannabis herb, each weighing approximately 500g, with a combined total of 20kg and a street value of €400,000 (subject to analysis) were seized.

Some €7,000 in cash, believed to be the proceeds of crime, was also seized by gardaí.

A male in his 40s was arrested at the scene for an offence contrary to Section 15 of the Misuse of Drugs Act 1977/84.

He is currently detained under Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act 1996 at a Garda station in Dublin.

"This large seizure is another step towards the dismantling of this gang, from whom An Garda Síochána in the DMR [Dublin Metropolitan Region] have now seized over €2m in illegal drugs," Assistant Commissioner Paul Cleary said following the seizure.

"An Garda Síochána’s continued efforts will ensure that those in our communities who are involved in criminal activity will be targeted and brought to justice.” Gardaí attached to the Dublin Crime Response Team (DCRT) conducted the search of the property as part of ongoing investigations into the sale and supply of illegal drugs and related criminal activity in Dublin.

The seized drugs will be sent to Forensic Science Ireland (FSI) for analysis.

Investigations are ongoing.
