Services delayed at Connolly Station as man arrested over suspected firearm incident

Irish Rail said "significant delays" can be expected as a result of this decision

A man in his 50s was arrested this evening at Connolly Station, Dublin, after being reported to Gardaí for allegedly possessing a suspect firearm on a commuter train.

The individual, who did not make any threats toward passengers, was detained under Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act, 1939.

The firearm has been seized and will undergo a full technical examination to assess its legality under Irish law.

The incident prompted a large-scale Garda response, including multiple Armed Response Units. Connolly Station was evacuated as Gardaí conducted a security sweep of the station and the train.

The station has since reopened, with the exception of Platform five, and Gardaí confirm there are no ongoing public safety concerns.

Irish Rail says all train services using Connolly Station are delayed this evening, some by upwards of 50 minutes, following an incident.

Anyone with information is encouraged to contact Store Garda Station at 01 666 8000, the Garda Confidential Line at 1800 666 111, or any Garda station.

Gardaí have also warned of misinformation circulating online about the incident, urging the public to verify information before sharing it on social media or messaging platforms.
