Investigation launched after skeletal remains found in Cavan prison

Gardaí are investigating all the circumstances following the discovery of skeletal remains inside an area of Loughran House prison in Co Cavan on Thursday.

The discovery was made at a building site on the prison grounds at 4:30 pm on Thursday.

The scene is currently preserved for a forensic and technical examination, a Garda spokesperson said.

The Coroner’s Office has been notified, and investigations are ongoing.

Loughran House is an open, low-security prison for men aged 18 years and over who are regarded as requiring lower levels of security.
