Girl, 8, dies after assault at house in Co Wexford
The scene remains preserved for forensic examination and the Coroner has been notified
A child has died, and two others have been hospitalised, following an assault at a property in New Ross, Co Wexford, on Sunday night.
Gardaí and emergency services attended the scene at approximately 11.45pm.
The girl, 8, was taken to University Hospital Waterford for treatment but died from her injuries in the early hours of Monday morning.
A man and a woman in their 30s are receiving treatment at University Hospital Wexford. Their injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.
The scene remains preserved for forensic examination, and the coroner has been notified.
The Garda Technical Bureau and the Office of the State Pathologist have been requested to assist in the investigation.
A post-mortem examination will be scheduled in due course, according to a garda spokesperson.
A Senior Investigating Officer (SIO) has been appointed to lead the investigation, and an incident room has been established at New Ross Garda Station.
Investigating gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have information about this incident to come forward.
