Toy sold by Smyths recalled due to burn fears

Smyths Toys operates 21 stores in the Republic.

A toy from popular retailer Smyths has been recalled due to burn fears.

The Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (CCPC) issued the recall for the Acctel 24V Vertex UTV, an electric ride-on vehicle for kids.

The CCPC said due to an issue with the circuit board, the product could become hot and overheat, causing it to melt.

"If a user touches it, they may sustain burns," it said, adding there were about 61 affected products in Ireland.

The warning, issued this week, says the type/number of the product model is 236175. The barcode is 5060307678208.

The affected products were made available from July 15, 2024, to October 21, 2024. Products sold after that date are not affected by the recall.

What should affected customers do?

Any affected customers should first stop using the product. The battery should be unplugged and it should kept out of the reach of children.

"Please return your product to your local Smyths Toys Superstores for a full refund," said the CCPC.

"Customers can call Smyths Toys customer service on 091 355 000."
