Two women were terrified by a life-endangering incident where they felt like they were in a scene from the horror film, The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, in Doneraile, Co Cork.

Now at Cork Circuit Criminal Court, the two men responsible for the violent and threatening incident have been jailed.

At the height of the incident, the car in which the injured parties were travelling was rammed. Judge Helen Boyle noted in her sentencing they were then faced by men with “a chainsaw or chainsaws”.

Two men in their 20s were sentenced for their parts in the incident.

Jason Landy, who lives at an apartment at Heatherside, Banteer, Co Cork, was sentenced to three years by Judge Helen Boyle, with the last year suspended.

Jack O’Flynn of Ballybrack, Doneraile, Co Cork, was sentenced to three years with the last 18 months suspended.

Judge Boyle remarked at Cork Circuit Criminal Court: “This was an absolutely terrifying occurrence. [One man was] brandishing a chainsaw. One woman said it resembled the Chainsaw Massacre. That [description] was not surprising.”

One of the two women said the threat to kill her and the car-ramming impacted on her life and she was still suffering flashbacks and had to get therapy as she finds herself in constant fear she might be attacked for no reason.

The second victim said she was absolutely terrified by the traumatic experience.

The judge was told the incident in Doneraile transferred to Castletownroche and back to Doneraile again on that date, July 21, 2022.

Jack O’Flynn pleaded guilty to endangerment on July 21, 2022, on Main Street, Doneraile, by throwing glass bottles and a spanner out of the car at another car, and production of a chainsaw on the same date, and dangerous driving.

Jason Landy pleaded guilty to endangerment by ramming of another car and making a threat to kill or cause serious injury.
