Met Éireann issues status yellow fog warning for 18 counties

According to Met Éireann, "fairly widespread" mist and fog is expected, and it will become dense in places.

Met Éireann has issued a status yellow fog warning for 18 counties.

The warning will effect counties Clare, Limerick, Tipperary, the whole province of Connacht, as well as Carlow, Kildare, Kilkenny, Laois, Longford, Meath, Offaly, Westmeath, Cavan, and Monaghan.

It comes into effect at 7pm on Monday and will run until 10am on Tuesday.

According to Met Éireann, "fairly widespread" mist and fog is expected, and it will become dense in places.

Potential impacts may include poor visibility and hazardous travelling conditions.

More generally, it will "stay dry this evening and tonight" with clear spells.

Areas of mist and fog will be "locally dense", especially across midland counties.

Lowest temperatures of 0C to 4C degrees are predicted with a "touch of frost."

Mist and fog will be dense in parts and will be "slow to clear" on Tuesday morning, it will linger in some spots until afternoon.

It will be a "generally dry day with spells of sunshine" though the "odd spot of drizzle" is possible on western coasts.

Highest temperatures of of 7C to 11C are expected.

Looking ahead, there will be a "good deal" of dry weather this week, though cloud cover will increase with patches of rain and drizzle at times.

However, according to Met Éireann, rainfall amounts will be "minimal" and temperatures will be "close to normal."

There will be a "foggy start" for some on Wednesday morning and a "rather cloudy day overall" with scattered patches of light rain, drizzle and mist.

Highest temperatures of 9C to 13C are forecast.

Thursday will be "a mostly cloudy day" with a lot of dry weather overall, but a "few spots of light rain and drizzle here and there."

Friday will also be cloudy with the "odd patch of rain and drizzle. Highest temperatures of 9C to 12C degrees are predicted.

Current indications suggest that it will turn colder again at the weekend with rain on Saturday followed by showers on Sunday.
