Man and woman arrested following discovery of body at Wexford quarry
Gardaí say investigations are ongoing and a Garda family liaison officer has been assigned to support the family of the deceased man.
A man and a woman have been arrested following the discovery of a body at a quarry in Co Wexford.
The body of Stephen Ring, 27, who had been missing for a fortnight, was discovered in Shelmalier Commons on the outskirts of Wexford town on Sunday afternoon.
Mr Ring had been reported missing on October 15 and a renewed appeal for information on his whereabouts was issued by gardaí on Saturday.
Detectives now say they are investigating all the circumstances surrounding the discovery his body in a pool of water on Sunday.
A large number of gardaí took part in searches at Carrigfoyle quarry and on surrounding walking trails on Forth Mountain over the weekend, with the Garda helicopter involved in the operations and divers used to search the quarry lake.
On Sunday afternoon, Gardaí blocked off roads into the quarry and sealed off a crime scene.
The quarry and surrounding trails will remain closed for a number of days to allow a full forensic examination to be carried out by the Garda National Technical Bureau.
Gardaí arrested a man, aged in his 40s, and a woman, aged in her 30s, on Sunday.
They were held at a Garda station in Wexford under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984.
A senior investigating officer was appointed to lead the investigation, and an incident room has been established at Wexford Garda Station.
