The new deputy garda commissioner is Justin Kelly, formerly Assistant Commissioner Organised and Serious Crime.

He fought off stiff competition from three rivals, all assistant commissioners: Angela Willis, Dublin Metropolitan Region; Cliona Richardson, North Western Region and Jonathan Roberts, Governance and Accountability.
