'Previously, you couldn't join if you weren't Irish': Nine new garda graduates born outside the State

A drone flew overhead and cameras clicked busily as 80 male and 28 female garda graduates marched in uniform through the square in Templemore garda training college as they were attested as sworn gardaĂ­.

Of those, nine were born outside the State, with new graduates from Slovakia, Poland, Romania, India, Lithuania and Ethiopia.
