Tánaiste says criminal justice system 'needs review' in bringing anti-immigration rioters to justice

Micheál Martin was speaking in Cork in the wake of Thursday's RTÉ Investigates documentary which showed violent and disturbing scenes from immigration protests at Newtownmountkennedy in Co Wicklow and Coolock in north Dublin over recent months.

The days of a traditional policing and criminal justice response to threatening and violent behaviour linked to immigration protests are over, the Tánaiste has said.

Micheál Martin has also accepted the State must engage more with communities earmarked for International Protection Applicant Service (Ipas) accommodation centres.
