Teenager dies after fatal crash in Kildare as road death tally hits 116

A teenager has died following a fatal crash in Kildare on Tuesday evening.
The incident, involving just one vehicle, took place on the Clane Road (R403) in Celbridge at around 10.30pm.
The driver and only occupant of the car, an adult aged in his teens, suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
He is the 116th person to have been killed on Irish roads so far in 2024 — an increase of 13 on the same period last year.
Gardaà are appealing for any witnesses to the collision to come forward with information or footage.
The road remains closed this morning to allow for a forensic examination
A spokesperson said: "Anyone with any information is asked to contact Leixlip Garda Station on 01 666 7800, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda station."
On Sunday, two people were killed on Irish roads — a male cyclist aged in his 60s died following a crash in Dublin and a man in his 20s was killed in a collision between a van and a lorry in Co Sligo.
