Driver clocked at 186km/hr in a 100km zone among motorists caught speeding

A driver travelling at 186km/hr in a 100km zone is just one of 440 motorists detected speeding on Irish roads so far this bank holiday weekend.
Providing an update on Saturday afternoon, An Garda SĂochána said that the vast majority of motorists are travelling within the designated speed, having checked over 125,000 vehicles for speeding since beginning their bank holiday policing operation on Thursday morning.
However, a spokesperson said that some of those detected speeding have been going at an “especially dangerous” speed.
It included the 186km/hr driver on the N24 near Piltown in Kilkenny.
On the R510 Dock Road in Limerick, a motorists was detected driving 93km/hr in a 50km zone.
Furthermore, a driver in Donegal was clocked at 112km/hr in an 80km zone while a driver in Roscommon was spotted doing 107km/hr in a 60km zone.
“An Garda SĂochána continue to monitor and conduct checkpoints on our roads, using our technology to detect those speeding nationwide,” a statement added.Â
“Remember to please slow down and drive safely today and every day.”Â
Over the weekend, gardaĂ have also been sharing videos of their roads policing efforts on social media. In one clip, gardaĂ spotted a van driver holding a mobile phone while driving and pulled him over as he merged onto a motorway in Dublin.

“This motorist was observed holding his mobile phone while driving in Dublin,” An Garda SĂochána wrote on X.Â
“There is no excuse, put down your phone - Never Drive While Distracted.”Â
The bank holiday road safety operation continues until Wednesday morning.
