Drugs and counterfeit items worth over €500,000 seized

More than €500,000 in drugs and counterfeit items have been seized by Revenue officers in Dublin and Athlone over the last week.

In Athlone, while examining parcels, Revenue officers discovered over 18.4kg of herbal cannabis with an estimated value of €368,000.

The illegal drugs were found with the assistance of detector dog Enzo in parcels originating from Spain.

They were intended for addresses in Dublin and Meath.

Elsewhere, various quantities of other illegal drugs, with a combined value of almost €95,000, were seized during the examination of parcels at a premises in Dublin.

The drugs were discovered in parcels originating from the US, the UK, India, Canada, and Thailand.

The parcels were intended for various addresses countrywide.

Almost €53,000 worth of counterfeit goods, including handbags, sunglasses and runners, were also seized.

Investigations into all seizures are ongoing
