The likelihood of Ireland experiencing an extreme temperature of 33C or higher has increased from a once-in-180 year event to a one-in-nine year event, according to new research.
The research, led by climate scientists at Maynooth University, also estimated that the chances of the country experiencing a temperature of 34C or above - a mark never before reached in Ireland - has gone from a once-in-1,600 year event, to a once-in-28 year event. Â
