Man, 60s, dies following hit and run in Donegal

The injured man, aged in his 60s, was taken to Letterkenny University Hospital before being transferred to Beaumont Hospital in Dublin. 

A man has died following a hit-and-run which happened in Donegal in the early hours of Sunday morning. 

The incident happened at around 12.15am on Main Street, Clonmany when a pedestrian was struck by a vehicle. 

The vehicle failed to remain at the scene. 

The injured man, aged in his 60s, was taken to Letterkenny University Hospital before being transferred to Beaumont Hospital in Dublin. 

He was in a critical condition before passing away on Wednesday evening. 

An autopsy is due to take place in due course. 

A male driver, aged in his 30s, was identified and arrested by gardaí following further investigations. 

He was detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984 at a Garda station in the Donegal Division.

He was then charged in relation to the incident and appeared before court on Monday evening. 

A garda spokesperson added that the incident is now a Fatal Road Traffic collision investigation
