Councillors criticise Department of Justice move to replace policing committees

Commission on the Future Policing in Ireland found many of the policing issues local gardaí deal with involve issues like addiction, homelessness, mental health and family support and require the involvement of other health agencies and social services.

Dublin city councillors have strongly criticised the Department of Justice over its national rollout of new community safety partnerships.

Existing joint policing committees, which are run by local authorities, will be replaced by the partnerships, which will be broader in both scope and membership and under the control of a new State structure.
