Son of soldier killed by IRA welcomes plan to limit use of 'Óglaigh na hÉireann'

The proposal is aimed at keeping the term to only describe the Defence Forces and stopping any use of Óglaigh na hÉireann to describe paramilitaries.

The family of an Irish soldier killed by the IRA has welcomed proposed law changes that would impose fines for the unauthorised use of the title of the Defence Forces, “Óglaigh na hÉireann”.

Several paramilitary groups across Ireland, including the Provisional IRA, have also referred to themselves as “Óglaigh na hÉireann”.
