Cyclist, 50s, found fatally injured in Sligo

The cyclist was taken by ambulance to Sligo University Hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

A man in his 50s has died following a traffic incident in Sligo last night.

The incident occurred shortly after 11pm on Wednesday on Pearse Road.

A cyclist was found in the cycle lane with serious injuries.

He was taken by ambulance to Sligo University Hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

The local coroner has been notified and a post-mortem examination will be arranged.

The scene has been preserved for examination by Garda Forensic Investigators.

Traffic diversions are in place and motorists approaching Sligo town on Pearse Road are currently being diverted onto Cemetary Road.

Gardaí have launched an investigation into the incident are are appealing to witnesses to come forward.

They are asking any road users who may have camera footage, including dash cam, from the Pearse Road area between 11.30pm and midnight last night to make this available to them.
