Met Éireann issues status yellow rainfall warning for six counties on Sunday

Met Éireann has issued two status yellow rain warnings which will affect six counties on Sunday.

The first warning, affecting counties Cork, Waterford, and Wexford, begins at 6am and will run until 6pm.

According to the forecaster, there will be "heavy rain for a time, with highest rainfall amounts on hills and mountains".

Potential impacts may include localised flooding and travel disruption.

The second warning, which comes into effect at 11am, will impact counties Donegal, Galway, Mayo and Sligo.

This warning will end at 9pm, and also brings a risk of localised flooding and travel disruption.

Saturday, will "start chilly" but will be largely dry with "spells of hazy sunshine".

However, cloudier conditions in the southwest will quickly replace the early sunshine as outbreaks of rain and drizzle gradually spread, turning heavy at times.

Highest temperatures of 11C in the north to 16C in the south are predicted with fresh and gusty south to southeast winds.

Saturday night will be "wet at first with the possibility of further falls of rain later, especially in the south". 

On Sunday, the scattered outbreaks of rain will become more widespread and persistent with some very heavy falls, leading to localised flooding.

It will be blustery too with strong and gusty southerly winds with highest temperatures of 17C to 19C.

However, it will become drier overnight.
