Man, 20s, dies following Longford assault

A man has died after a serious assault in Longford.

It followed an attack on three people, including two pensioners, yesterday afternoon.

Gardaí are continuing their investigation into the serious assault that occurred in the town of Lanesboro.

A man in his twenties allegedly assaulted two men, aged in their seventies and eighties, and a woman in her fifties.

All received non-life threatening injuries and were taken to hospital.

The man in his twenties was taken to University Hospital Galway and has since passed away.

A post-mortem examination will be carried out later.
