Latest: Five stowaways who were found on a ship at a County Kerry harbour today are to seek asylum in this country.

5.24pm: Five stowaways who were found on a ship at a County Kerry harbour today are to seek asylum in this country. 

The five men from Albania, believed to be in their 20s, were detained at Fenit Harbour by gardaí this afternoon. 

Tralee gardaí say the Department of Justice's immigration and asylum wing is now dealing with the men and they are travelling to Dublin to process their applications. 

1.15pm: Five men detained after being found on ship at Kerry Harbour

Five men are being detained at Tralee Garda Station after being found on a ship at a Kerry harbour. 

Gardaí believe the men, all non-EU nationals, are stowaways on a vessel docked at Fenit Harbour. 

They were detained at Fenit at 12.15pm. 

The men, who are believed to be in their twenties, are being questioned at Tralee Garda Station.
