Dublin City Council has bought 53 apartments in Ringsend to help clear the social housing list.

The one, two and three bedroom homes at Shelbourne Plaza will be ready for people to move into by March.

The complex, which was built in 2007, had been run as short-term serviced accommodation until earlier this year.

Local Sinn Féin Councillor Chris Andrews explains the type of people who will be offered a home there.

He said: "People who have been waiting 10-15 years for a new home.

"It reduces the number of people on the housing list, admittedly a small number in the overall context of the homeless crisis, but it is a welcome step in the right direction."
