Landlords objecting to 'more of this bureaucracy and red tape' in rental market

Landlords are objecting to what they call more "bureaucracy" in the housing market.

An Oireachtas Committee this morning will discuss the potential of putting homeless families in shared hubs instead of hotels.

And yesterday the Minister for Housing, Eoghan Murphy, extended the rent-controlled pressure zones.

However, Fintan Mc Namara of the Residential Landlords Association says the Government has interfered enough.

He said: "When you let out a property a landlord will know from the level of interest what kind of price to expect. If you show it to 20 people and only two show an interest in it, it's certainly far from a five-star property.

"I'd be slow about having more of this bureaucracy and red tape, I think you have to let the market find its own level."
