Latest: A murder investigation has been launched following the discovery of a man’s body near Ballyboughal in North County Dublin.

Gardai believe the man was killed in a different location and his body then dumped on the quiet road.

His body may have been there for up to two days before it was found.

No effort had been made to hide the body, police said.

The deputy State Pathologist Dr Michael Curtis carried out a preliminary examination at the scene before the body was removed for a post-mortem examination.

Superintendent Noel Carolan appealed for information during a briefing for reporters.

"We are not entirely sure of his identity yet which is why I was speaking earlier of the need for people who may have someone who has failed to return last night or failed to report for work or otherwise is known to be missing from the area.

"We do not have any reports of anyone in the area who has been missing who might be the person we found here."

Earlier: Gardai in Balbriggan have discovered the body of a man in Dublin.

The body was found at a laneway of the Ballyboughal to Oldtown Road (R129), about a kilometre outside Ballyboughal, this morning at approximately 10.40am.

The scene has been preserved and the offices of the State Pathologists and the Garda Technical Bureau have been notified.

Gardai are appealing for witnesses or to anyone with information to contact Balbriggan Garda Station on 01 8020510, The Garda Confidential Telephone Line 1800 666 111 or any Garda Station.
