Some 27,000 electricity meters are to be replaced amid concerns a fault has resulted in some customers being overcharged.

ESB Networks says around 17,000 meters may contain the faulty component, with indications of a 10% failure rate within this specific batch.

The company says it will carry out tests on the affected meters.

Anyone who was wrongly charged will be refunded.
