Alleged former IRA leader Thomas "Slab" Murphy was unfairly jailed for tax evasion by the courts, his lawyer has told an appeal.

Senior counsel John Kearney said all the tax due was paid by members of the 67-year-old's family.

<p> Volunteers attending the DMax 7.7 fitness event, in honour of Darragh McCarthy, who tragically passed away last year at just 21 years of age. The sold-out fitness event saw over 300 competitors take on DMax 7.7 featuring seven fitness stations, lasting seven minutes per station with a two minute transition between station. Competitors entered in teams of two and tested their strength, endurance and mental resilience across a series of challenges including rope skipping, ski-erg, medicine ball, assault bike, rowing, burpee box jumps and wall balls.
